Types
of Dutch Ovens?
A dutch oven commonly has 3
legs, a slightly convex rimmed lid to allow coals from the
cooking fire to be placed on top and a wire bale handle.
Coals are also placed under
the dutch oven to provide uniform heat therefore letting the
inside act as an oven.
Typically dutch ovens are
made from bare cast iron. Aluminum dutch ovens are
also available.
Modern
Dutch Ovens
Typically smooth bottomed,
modern dutch ovens are designed for the cooktop. These
are often aluminium or ceramic.
In the UK these are known
as casserole dishes.

America's most prominent
Dutch oven manufacturer, Lodge, was founded in 1896 and is
located in South Pittsburg, Tennessee
